Overview of Construction Industry Development Section (CIDS)

The Construction Industry development Section (CIDS) is responsible for regulating improving the construction industry in the Maldives.

The key activities are:

  1. Laws, regulations and standards
  2. Building controls
  3. Research and statistics
  4. Training and manpower development

Laws, regulations and standards

The CIDS in consultation with all stakeholders will seek to introduce laws, regulations and standards for the construction industry with the aim to improve construction quality.

Building controls

The CIDS will introduce mechanisms and regulations for the control of building design and construction and the building designers in order to deliver safe building design solutions.

Research and statistics

The CIDS will conduct research and collect statistics on the construction industry in order to better formulate regulations and standards.

Training and Manpower development

The CIDS will work with the industry to improve the education and skills of all persons involved in the construction industry.
